Disruptive technologies are those that do just that: disrupt. While the word disruption may have a negative connotation, disruptive technologies are actually a good thing. They change the norms that people have and bring new ideas and innovation to the forefront. Eric has become a master of creating disruptive technologies.
One of Eric Lefkofsky’s companies, Tempus, has now partnered their technologies with the University of Chicago Medicine research team. The goal is to use machine learning and molecular sequencing to find the best cancer treatments for patients based on their genetic make-up. Right now, doctors prescribe treatments based solely on the type of cancer that the patients have. Very little is done to customize these treatments, and the result is that most of these treatments have very little effect on the patient’s disease. Now, with the help of these disruptive technologies, a cure for cancer becomes more possible. At least now doctors will be equipped to battle cancer with the optimum treatments.
Eric Lefkofsky has founded several of these companies that cater to disruptive technologies. He has started Groupon, Uptake Technologies, Mediaocean, Echo Global logistics, Innerworkings, and Lightbank. All of these companies either create, distribute, or invest in new and innovate technologies. Click Here for details.
Lefkofsky is also a philanthropist. He is currently on the board of trustees for several organizations, including the Art Institute of Chicago, the Museum of Science and Industry, World Business Chicago, and the Children’s Hospital of Chicago. He and his wife also created their own foundation called the Lefkofsky Family Foundation. This foundation provides support for organizations that are attempting to change their communities for the better. This foundation has already helped over 50 organizations in the Chicago area.
Eric Lefkofsky is the master of disruptive technologies. His drive and motivation, as well as his philanthropic tendencies, make him one of the people that will change the game in the future.
